We are not us

The real meaning of persona is a mask, such as actors were accustomed to wear on the ancient stage; and it is quite true that no one shows himself as he is, but wears his mask and plays his part.

Arthur Schopenhauer

As in old stage we have ourselves
As different personae, our masks

Green and eyes twitching in loves.
Now we wear a green grease paint

And enjoy twitching our eyebrows
On the stage to the beat of a drum.

At the street level we are monkeys
Who clap like keyed machine toys

But the keying lasts only a minute
Till next winding, next eye twitch.
