Looking down

In the wake of person’s death
We may remember Jesus’ son

Looking down in a pity of life,
Not because a person is dead.

Looking down is not such pity
In the wake of general death.

We turn dead sooner or later,
A day or a year plus or minus.

We are not awake generically.
A poet turns dead in his wake

As all are, generally speaking
And no body wakes after that.

(remembering Denis Johnson in the wake of his death)
