Greening

“Adelle was diagnosed with cancer on Saturday, June 4, 2016. I told her doctor, “We want to keep her.” Adelle chimed in, “I want to be kept.” The doctor remarked that Adelle was “taking the news well.” She then asked, “What about him?”—me. Adelle answered, accurately, “A little less well.”

-Jack Foley from Grief Songs Quoted from Literary Hub

Say Viriditas on tongue to save
The green around you in a love
As an old tongue-kiss memory.

Green is not around you but you
Under big blue dome with stars
Shining green as tomato plants

They flower and green tomatoes
Appear and ripen to be rich red
To fall in a brown dust of death.
